Richard Scoot sensei Rokudan (6th Dan) Chief Instructor
My martial arts journey began in the 1970's being given copies of Kung Fu Monthly by my Nan of all people, Bruce Lee was a huge influence! My interest continued with me grading to brown belt in Judo in the 1980's. It was 1984 watching the Karate Kid movie where I truly fell in love with Karate, but it was some years later before I had the courage to walk into the dojo. I began training in Shotokan Karate In 1991 with the English Shotokan Karate Association and passed my Shodan (Black Belt) in 1995 under Sensei Mike Nursey 9th Dan. I opened my Potton Dojo in October 1995 and in 1997 I became the chief instructor of the Sandy Dojo. The Clifton Dojo opened in 2007 followed by Gamlingay in January 2017. We have another dojo in Brampton, run by Sensei Jon Chitty 5th Dan. Asahi Shotokan Karate was founded in January 2014 and we became affiliated to SKAI International with Shinji Akita Sensei in the same year. Since then I have been very fortunate to train in many other countries such as the UAE, Belgium, Germany, Monaco, Italy, Sardinia, France, Indonesia, USA & Japan twice. In 2016 I was blessed to be able to take my family on a tour of Japan and train with some of the worlds best Japanese instructors, Akita, Shimizu, Kokuban, Abe, Tokuno & Matsuda Sensei in Tokyo, Osaka & Gifu. Travelling, training and meeting new people has been such a wonderful part of my own personal karate journey. In 2022 we became an independent organisation licensed and insured in the UK with the AMA (Amateur Martial Association). I am keen to pass on my knowledge and skill to all Karateka and anyone who wishes to develop their karate regardless of sex, gender, age, nationality, race, neuro diversity or disability. Everyone is welcome in our dojos. OSS! Sensei Richard Scoot Chief Instructor
